It is with super sadness that our fab First Mate Karol, who has been with us since 2015 will not be joining us in 2018, as he is looking to pursue some new adventures – keep an eye out for more on our Karol farewells as they unfold over the winter.

HOWEVER, this does mean that Excelsior is looking for a new, equally fantabulous, First Mate to join her crew for the 2018 season!

The post is permanent, full time and our new First Mate will be tasked with helping deliver quality experiences on-board to the broad range of groups we sail with Excelsior, as well as help maintain a nationally important historic vessel (voted one of the top 60 historic ships in the UK!).

Based in Lowestoft, The Excelsior Trust works with local and national groups and individuals sailing around the UK and Europe. The 2018 season will take us to the Baltic, Norway and Holland amongst other places.

Sailing with Excelsior provides life changing experiences to a variety of young people and adults alike. The successful applicant will be a key person involved with the care and development of the young people as well as helping teach the skills needed to sail and live at sea.

Excelsior is a 77ft gaff ketch and is on the National Historic Ships register. There is a large emphasis on keeping her traditional and the preservation of the skills needed to sail and maintain her. If you think you might have what it takes to be a part of the Excelsior family read more about the post and how to apply here.

Pay will be negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
