Skipper of EXCELSIOR
The post of Skipper of EXCELSIOR has come vacant for 2019 onwards.
This is a unique opportunity to become involved with one of the most authentic sea-going vessels under the Red Ensign. Her present role as a busy sail training and charter vessel around the Western seaboard of Europe is demanding and requires previous sail training experience.
EXCELSIOR is a 100 Ton (displacement) 77ft L.O.A. former Lowestoft Smack. As a Core List vessel in the UK’s Historic Fleet she is maintained traditionally which involves the skipper and mate working on the refit over the winter (with technical support). This includes supervising volunteers and trainees.
The skipper is responsible for the day-day management of the vessel and for delivering training to charter groups including socially diverse young people and vulnerable adults. Candidates must have experience of traditional rig, and will hold a RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Commercially Endorsed) or equivalent plus the other relevant qualifications.
