We are keen that Excelsior is celebrated as the last working example of an authentic Lowestoft sailing trawler, the sort that brought fabulous wealth to the town in late Victorian and early Edwardian times.
To that end she will be welcoming visitors during some of the national Heritage Open Days in September. Excelsior will be open to the public on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th on Heritage Quay by the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club. Mast climbing will be on offer and as the national theme is ‘Edible England’ we are working closely with local suppliers of victuals who will be displaying their wares. Hopefully we will also be welcoming maritime themed crafts people, including fishing net makers, and others who together will form a small maritime market on The South Pier. We are hoping to make this a maritime event in itself to complement Heritage Open Days.
