HARWICH SEA SHANTY FESTIVAL (2023)
If you like music and maritime history then give some thought to joining this trip to Harwich to visit the famous Sea Shanty Festival. You will arrive in style, live in the lap of luxury and dine out on your rugged good looks and great sense of humour and adventure (not all of these things may be true!) In any event get a few mates together and and sign up. (16+ only) As Excelsior is a heritage vessel the accommodation is basic reflecting her age and authenticity. Welcome to Harwich International Shanty Festival. With the renewal of interest in Shanties and Sea Songs, following the TikTok craze which overtook us all in Lockdown, we welcome some new visitors to these pages as well as those who attended our 2021 & 2022 Festivals.
Over the Festival weekend the whole of the old seaport town of Harwich rang with the sound of lusty shanties, music emanating from pubs, boats, clubs and our many historic buildings. There are street theatre sketches, maritime crafts, pirates, barge trips, walks, talks and workshops on offer and the town fills with colour as visitors soak up the atmosphere created over this special weekend.
