Life Aboard
Life aboard Excelsior is a rhythm all of its own — a blend of tradition, teamwork and shared purpose. Days are shaped by the sea and the schedule of the ship: you’ll eat hearty meals cooked in the galley, simple sleeping quarters are below deck, and take your turn at the helm or hauling sail. Everyone becomes part of the working crew, standing watch by day and night, learning the ropes (literally), and gaining confidence with every shift. At sea there’s no Wi-Fi, no distractions — just the wind, the water, and the people around you. It’s simple, physical, meaningful living. Eat. Sleep. Work. Crew. Watch. Learn. Repeat. It’s an experience that stays with you for life.

Kit Lists
We provide all essential safety gear, including lifejackets, waterproofs, and protective equipment — everything you need to stay safe and comfortable while sailing. But life aboard Excelsior is active and outdoors, so you'll need to bring your own sleeping bag, layered clothing, non-slip footwear, and personal items. Joining Instructions
Before your voyage begins, you’ll receive full joining instructions including where and when to arrive, what to expect on your first day, and who to contact if you're delayed. Excelsior usually departs from Lowestoft or Ipswich, but some voyages may start or finish in other ports in the UK or Europe — all the details will be confirmed well in advance. We make it easy to get aboard and feel at home from the moment you arrive.
