Scottish Expedition 13th-19th May

Open to all ages 15+, suitable for Gold DofE residential

About your destination:

Stromness  is the second-most populous town in Orkney, Scotland. It is in the southwestern part of Mainland Orkney. It is a burgh with a parish around the outside with the town of Stromness as its capital  Kirkwall Airport is 19 miles from Stromness, Flights operated by LOGANAIR

A voyage aboard Excelsior is more than just a sailing trip, it's a journey of self discovery and an experience of living history. As the fishermen 100 years ago did, you'll take part in every aspect of life on board ship; from hauling out the bowsprit, to hoisting the mainsail gaff, to helming under the stars by tiller. You'll learn to navigate, and you'll experience the true meaning of teamwork and camaraderie.

After a full team briefing where you'll meet your shipmates for the week and learn about the boat, we'll slip the lines and set sail northbound from Edinburgh. Depending on the conditions, we'll sail overnight, taking a pause in one of Scotland's east coast harbours. After that we'll head north east again, to cross the Moray Firth and towards the Orkney islands, pausing to explore some anchorages before making our final call in Stromness. From there you have the option to continue your visit in the islands (why not stay on and experience the infamous Orkney Folk Festival?) or head back to the mainland via flight or ferry from Kirkwall (a short drive from Stromness).
